Airfix 1/72 Vickers Wellington Mk.IA/C # 08019A
The Vickers Wellington Mk.IA/C was a British twin-engined bomber aircraft used extensively during World War II.
It was designed by Barnes Wallis and built by Vickers-Armstrongs Ltd.
The Wellington was unique in that it was constructed primarily of geodetic (a lattice-like) structure made of metal tubes, which gave it exceptional strength and made it difficult to shoot down.
The Mk.IA/C variant was powered by two Bristol Pegasus XVIII radial engines and had a top speed of around 235 mph (378 km/h).
It was armed with a variety of machine guns and could carry up to 4,500 lbs (2,040 kg) of bombs.
The Wellington was used in a variety of roles, including bombing raids, maritime patrol, and even as a transport aircraft.
It was also used for special operations, such as dropping agents and supplies behind enemy lines.
Despite its obsolescence by the end of the war, the Wellington remained in service with the RAF until 1953, and a few were still used by other countries well into the 1960s.
The Wellington played a significant role in the early years of the war and is remembered as one of the most important British bombers of World War II.
